Who We Are

andy2Andy Sennitt has spent almost 30 years working in the international broadcasting industry. An Englishman, he left Lancaster University in 1974 with a degree in Russian & Soviet Studies, and went to work at BBC Monitoring. As Andy puts it, “they paid me to listen to the radio”.

In 1978, Andy left the BBC to join the World Radio TV Handbook (WRTH) as Assistant Editor. WRTH, now in its 53rd year, is the most comprehensive directory of broadcasters worldwide. Andy spent more than eight years in Copenhagen, Denmark, working with the respected Jens Frost. When Frost retired in 1987, he took over as Editor-in-Chief, and relocated to Amsterdam.

Working for the first year with Assistant Editor Richard Hunt, and then for nine years with Managing Editor Bart Kuperus, Andy guided WRTH through some challenging years. New competitors threatened the dominance of WRTH, but sales continued to grow, and peaked during the Gulf War when 67,000 copies were sold.

The liberalisation of the media in many countries during the past two decades resulted in a vast increase in the number of radio and TV broadcasters worldwide. This increased the editorial workload  year on year. Andy was finding that this left him no time to explore new and exciting areas of the media such as the Internet. At the same time, he was having to turn down opportunities to get involved in some new projects.

In mid 1997, Andy decided that the 1998 edition of WRTH, the 20th he was involved with, would be his last. Andy formed his own company, AGS Media, and was immediately invited by Radio Netherlands to carry out a consultancy project to determine the future software needs for the station’s Web site. This led to part-time freelance work, and subsequently to a full-time staff contract. He is now an Internet Producer, responsible for the Media Network Webzine as well as general editorial content.

Now 53, Andy is still single, but he has many personal friends all over the world, so there’s never any time to feel lonely. Away from the media, his major interest is football (that’s soccer if you live in North America). He is a keen supporter of Chelsea FC in London.
